Babies Who Snack During Feeds Often Snack on Sleep Too
“Giving your baby the opportunity to get hungry enough for a full feed can be one of the simplest ways to support better sleep.” - Laura Gournic
Making sure the baby is eating enough in the early months is a real concern for many new parents. But feeding the baby too often may become counterproductive. If a baby is fed before they are allowed to get hungry, they will learn to just take small feeds. That can leave parents feeling they need to feed more often because they want the baby to eat enough. Small feeds more often… never getting very hungry and never getting very full. That pattern is considered "snacking." Babies who are allowed to get hungry before a feed by following a prescribed time limit between feeds often end up eating more in a 24-hr period. And getting a full belly sets a baby up to sleep for longer periods. It's a win-win!
